(HOUSTON) Workforce Solutions and the Galveston Regional Chamber of Commerce will host a joint seminar in September aimed at helping Island employers recruit, train, and retain workers, officials with the two agencies announced today.

“The Gulf Coast is seeing one of the tightest job markets in years, so employers need to be really savvy about their recruitment and retention strategies,” said Mike Temple, Director of Workforce Solutions. “This event is an opportunity for them to get a better understanding of how to identify, attract, and retain good workers and ensure they have a well-qualified talent pipeline.”

Dr. Myles Shelton, president of Galveston College and chair of the Galveston Chamber’s Workforce Development Committee said “Galveston College is excited to be the partner location for this exciting workforce development conference. Eighty percent of all jobs require candidates to have some form of education or training beyond the high school level. As Galveston Island’s community college, our focus is on providing training, certifications, degrees and advancement opportunities to meet our local and regional business, industry, healthcare and public safety needs.”
