My Galveston Weekend Brings Awareness to Island Living September 5–7, 2015
Campaign Celebration Highlights Positive Perceptions and Aims to Increase Population
GALVESTON, TX September 2, 2015 – Galvestonians love their city so much they want to invite others to live here, too. My Galveston is a volunteer movement started by the C-Crewe, the Galveston Regional Chamber of Commerce’s young professionals group, to promote Galveston Island as a great place to live.
“We see Galveston Island as a thriving city where people choose to live and work,” explained Gina M. Spagnola, Chamber President and C-Crewe creator. “The My Galveston campaign goals are clear: increase the number of people who call the island home and promote positive perceptions and facts about island living. Galveston is a historical, coastal community with a diverse array of neighborhoods, career opportunities, outdoor recreation, arts and entertainment.”
The C-Crewe invites the public to join in celebrating the first annual My Galveston Weekend, September 5-7. This weekend, residents, visitors, and businesses are encouraged to share their My Galveston testimony, using the #MyGalveston on social media and in their place of business, on marquee signs and any medium that can share the passion for island living.
“My Galveston identifies the perception issues that hamper the island’s growth,” said Erin Yarbrough, My Galveston Campaign Co-Chair. “We offer a fresh, positive message based on facts about Galveston living to combat those misconceptions.”
The My Galveston campaign started in 2011 when members of the Galveston Regional Chamber of Commerce C-Crewe recognized a major need to promote the city of Galveston and push positive perceptions to those who either commute to the island to work, those who visit, and those who live off the island. MyGalveston.com comes after countless hours of volunteer work by active young professionals who seek to showcase the island and move it in a positive direction. My Galveston won best committee at the 2015 Galveston Regional Chamber of Commerce awards.
The My Galveston committee is in the midst of a fundraising campaign to build a long-range, sustainable campaign that will include presence at local events and a large-scale advertising campaign throughout the Texas and Louisiana region. The committee plans on raising public and private funds while bringing together Galveston’s major employers, civic organizations, and educational institutions to drive its singular message: Galveston Island is a wonderful place to call home.
